Another way to look at fashion

Opened in 2017, the Yves Saint Laurent Museum Marrakech is more than a sequence of garments. It invites us to consider how a silhouette emerges from a sketch, a fabric or an encounter with art. Its Moroccan setting adds the perspective of a city where the designer returned to work and restore his energy.

A place with many voices

The 4,000 m² building brings together exhibition spaces, a research library and an auditorium. Looking at works, consulting documents and listening to conversations offer complementary ways into creative history. The institution describes a 400 m² space dedicated to the designer’s work.

Marrakech in a life’s journey

Yves Saint Laurent first visited Morocco in 1966. With Pierre Bergé, he acquired Jardin Majorelle in 1980. The proximity of garden and museum now connects botanical heritage, architecture and fashion history, without making these separate institutions one and the same.

What this journal offers

We explore connections between places, materials and ideas. This independent guide does not replace museum announcements or its official programme. Displays change: a garment mentioned in a historical article is not necessarily on view during your visit.
